ABOUT
I'm that guy who took the Victorian Government to the High Court of Australia to rid our country of the world's worst EV tax. This was not only unfair and unjust, it was also a massive disincentive for new buyers of EVs and delayed our progression to cleaner/greener forms of transportation.

    Dude, I wish I found your video sooner. I just tried to make a how to video for the Japanese and that went south so fast. That trick with the lifting of the cover didn't really help me too much, but yeah, it is a little better. The Chinese right handed cars are definitely more difficult than the American cars. I got so pissed off I called out the RUclipsr that is on Hanshow's product page. I feel like a lot of RUclipsrs aren't completely honest about some of the products they push. The next thing I have to worry about now is how long is this power frunk going to work. There are horror stories about the power frunk's struts failing, but those were previous versions. Version 5 seems pretty solid so far, only time will tell. Great work on the video!

    In find it very interesting that the sound/audio system in the RWD version of the new M3 isn't as good as the Model Y RWD! Why??? Both are base model versions, so why wouldn't Tesla use the same setup in both models? That was actually one of the biggest reasons I went for the Model Y last year over the M3.

    Apparently the ANCAP issue is regarding child seat anchor. The latest Tesla Model 3 offering has had its five-star safety rating withheld due to a compliance issue with child-seat anchor points. The Australasian New-Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) stated that the updated model lacks an accessible top-tether point for the middle rear seat, which is a requirement for compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADRs). This anchor point is essential for securing child seats, and it must be accessible without the use of tools. The pre-facelift Model 3 included this feature, but the facelifted version does not, thus breaching ADRs

    I doubt it will get 5 stars until they bring back the stalks. It's not as safe and it's so unnecessary. The removal of parking sensors may also be part of the problem. If they bring back some of the things they removed its a great upgrade. As it stands its a downgrade of some very important things. Wish they would put comfortable seats in the performance.

  • @franklong6269
    @franklong6269 5 дней назад

    I own the 2022 Model 3, and I REALLY don't like the idea of using the screen to select forward and reverse. I think the stalk on the steering wheel was much better ergonomically. I disagree with your assessment of the rear viewing screen. It's pure genius. I REALLY don't understand why you are bitching about being able to adjust the fan vents in the back. That's just stupid. Further, Tesla's electronics are probably the most reliable of any EV. So the rear screen probably won't "break." A LOT of people like the wood trim on the older models. I don't really care that much. I think I prefer the carbon fiber version. But the 2024 also looks great. The wood trim looks good, but it would not be my first choice. When I bought my 2022 Model 3, I was given a 30-day free trial of FSD, and I really didn't like it. The car's dictator-like threats if it thinks you are not paying attention are boresome and irritating. Further, the FSD makes mistakes all the time. Certainly, it's better than anything else out there, but it's not worth $8,000. If I drive my RWD Model 3 at the speed limit in temperatures between 50 -90 degrees F, it will get around 240 - 250 miles range on a full charge. My car has 19-inch wheels, so that is pretty damn close to Tesla's estimate. Tesla estimates the RWD 2022 Model 3 with 19-inch wheels will get 246 miles of range. With 18-inch wheels, it will get 272 miles of range. Tesla provided an update that warns of set speed cameras. It doesn't warn about mobile cameras. I have found the message system to be finicky (and the phone call system). But Android Auto was not noticeably better. I used Android Auto with my Toyota truck.

    Hi Chris, nice review, as always. I agree that the FSD driving experience in Australia has stagnated. I paid for FSD within a few days of purchase (to avoid paying the luxury car tax on it - you know, that tax that was introduced to support the Australian vehicle manufacturing industry that no longer exists) of my Model 3 Performance in Dec 2019, based on the promises of FSD at the time that have still not eventuated outside of North America. I agree that it is not worth the money and that Tesla has done zero work on trying to make it better. They have (understandably, I guess) concentrated on the FSD Supervised roll out in North America. Basic Autopilot is almost as good as "FSD" in Australia. I agree that a head up display would be perfect. I experienced this in a BMW recently and it is ideal for knowing the important parameters while keeping your eyes on the road. Having seen some recent videos of FSD Supervised in the USA (Dirty Tesla, for example), the system seems to be extremely sensitive in detecting the driver looking at the screen even for a brief period and a HUD would help this. I agree that a top down 360 degree view would be great and Tesla should have been able to get this done ages ago. I think there is a slight error on the graphics relating to rapid charging speeds, which state 10-80% in 25 mins for 170 kW and 27 mins for 250 kW. The most recent Tesla OTA update includes speed camera alerts.

    The thing about autopilot and AI is that it has to be trained on the conditions that it's expected to handle. But autopilot needs to know how to handle unexpected conditions, and unpredictable changes. Does autopilot know how to handle a puncture at high speed? Does it know what do if there is sudden smoke in front, due to the car in front having a blown engine, or is doing burnouts, obscuring vision? Does these guys in California know how to identify a kangaroo on the side of the road, and how dangerous it is if it suddenly jumps onto the road? Can it tell the difference between superficial puddles and the sort of deep puddles that will induce aquaplaning, and slow down accordingly? Can it tell the difference between a big rock (that will damage the car) and a large, empty cardboard box (harmless) in the middle of the road? Since AI needs to be trained on known data, it can't be expected to handle unexpected, black swan type events. And that's precisely the wrong time for Autopilot to go "I dunno, you drive now!", forcing the driver has to take over control too late.

    • @chrisvanderstock
      @chrisvanderstock 5 дней назад

      All excellent questions. From what I'm seeing with FSD in the USA, is that it's handling unusual situations quite well (read: construction zones, traffic diversions, etc). However your questions go deeper than that, so I too would be interested to see how it handles it.

    Great video Chris. I will order the M3LR in two months if everything goes well. FSD is in comparison to the US ‘cheap’. I believe the reason for this is that many functions are either limited or not available. I am sure more features will come to Australia and the price will go up. Just something to keep in mind at least.

    • @chrisvanderstock
      @chrisvanderstock 5 дней назад

      I think (again, no official word from Tesla on the why), is because the car is significantly different that ANCAP isn't allowing to apply the old rating to the new one. I dunno, but the lack of drive stalk is annoying, and sure you can use the back up buttons located on the overhead panel nested with the LED lights and hazard button, but again - waaaaaayyyy too much effort compared to putting a drive stalk back in. I challenge any 2024 Model 3 owner to do a side by side parking test to see who is faster.

    Auto Pilot feature is only for LANE KEEPING only with cruise+adaptive control. It doesnt help you to turn or intercepting lane for u. Nor help u slow down from speed hump. Autopilot is only good for highway or freeway. If you want the car to drive for u following the navigator map direction is FSD!

    FSD no 100% guranteed. we have too many birdsh.ts incoming from sky that might dropped on to tesla's cam and sensor that cause the AI miscalculate the algorithm that led to incidents. NO NO FSD in Australia! i dont want people relied on FSD on traffic road!

    Not a big fan of FSD. Nothing come perfect or guranteed 100% safety. The AI will never able to predict everything whats coming at ya. What if wind too strong and blow a stick or can on road and your FSD sudden land over the can and slippery wet floor that cause your car slide and flip over and if there are people or cars nearby .. how many people get into the incident? Or some birdshit just dropped on sensor's or camera that cause your AI miscalculation?

      Same can be said about many things. But if statistically safer than humans, still worth it. And if a problem does occur, car can still slow down with hazards.

      @@shou635 it happened before one of Tesla owner used FSD on freeway during bright sunny day while he not focusing or sleep while FSD mode on. And in front there is a truck silver shelter reflected from bright sunny made the FSD unknown or unseeable what ahead of Tesla's FSD and ran into it hard and killed the owner. It happened a few cases incident related to FSD. Yes they can be safer than many drivers but drivers still must have their eye focus during the ride. With this habit can make driver drowsy when they relied on FSD for too long. People need to be more relied on their self-habitation before they are becoming lazier and lack of self-skill awareness. Even i had the auto pilot on when the road is downhill(lower dip) and back uphill in short distance caused Autopilot sudden slow down hard brake as if the there is a wall in front. where vehicle behind me almost hit me.

      @@dann5515 you think american roads are any better?? Some states are 3rd world status in the US with minimal line markings, squirrels everywhere and like us, unpredictable road users. The only reason it wont come here too soon is we dont have the population or market to justify the investment for Tesla, but it will happen this decade. It will save lives compared to the current increase in road deaths with humans behind the wheel.

    1:11 Tesla warranty used to be 3 years in 🇦🇺. Can anyone confirm? I think Chris is hallucinating again

      4 years in 2019 and remains same. Have some more mushrooms bud

      The 8 years warranty is for battery and drive train. Which are the primary concerns for any EV. The basic warranty is 4 years. So Chris is technically correct lol.

      @chrisvanderstock 5 дней назад

      It used to be for SR models, 4 years and 80,000kms (which ever comes first), and 160,000kms for dual motor versions. The new warranty is a bit backward for those with LR, Performance models. More info: www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/tesla-australia-cuts-warranty-in-half-120014/

    Thanks to Tesla for providing this media loaner for 4 days. Filming conditions weren't the best, so apologies for some rough shots in this video!
